Engraving a picture: Octopus in a Tuxedo

How to engrave a picture

On the way from the Lodge I told Finn "We don't want to go saying stupid things, like 'an Octopus in a Tuxedo."

"What's wrong with an Octopus in a Tuxedo?" he asked, quite reasonably.

I waited for a safe place to pull over, and

Asked ChatGPT "Please generate a picture of an octopus wearing a tuxedo." "

How to I engrave this?

  • magic wand select the almost-white and fill it with true white. (convert transparent to white)

  • remove the arc of black dots, I don't know what that might have been, but I don't like it.

  • Edited out details I didn't like. Saved it in gimp XCF

  • Convert to Grayscale Image->Mode->Grayscale

  • And then convert that back to RGB Image->Mode->RGB

  • Save it as a JPG

Cast acrylic is better for engraving than extruded. I used some 4mm smoke colored cast acrylic from my old days in the Tap Plastics off cut bin.

Engrave: speed 300 power 40 Cut: speed 20 power 85, 3 times.

The paper barely had ghost marks. I think going faster and doing more passes is helpful.
